Description

Trip to Gunby Woods

We have been fortunate to be secure a ‘Teaching Trees school visit’ with the Royal Forestry Society. This will take place for our Year 5 children and any Year 6 children not going to London on Monday 19th May 2025. The focus will be adaptation of plants and animals in the woods and how adaptation leads to evolution.

As the location is in Gunby Woods, we thought it would be an exciting adventure to walk across the fields from Moor Lane where we will be greeted by our visit leader.

We need to arrive by foot at 9.30am and so we would like children to arrive at school at 8.30am prompt in order to give us plenty long enough to walk to the woods. We will commence walking back at 11.30am so the children can have a picnic on the way back at school.

Please send plenty of water, some fruit for a snack as well as a picnic lunch to be carried in a rucksack.

For those children that are FSM, we will arrange a school packed lunch.

Children will need to be dressed appropriately for the weather, terrain and wooded environment and so long, thin trousers (not shorts or skirts) will be necessary to protect from brambles. If children could wear these along with their school uniform polo shirt, rain coat and sensible walking boots/trainers (not open shoes or sandals).

There will be a compost toilet in the woods.

Thank you
